A lung that is healthy is a good lung. Lung Health (the Lung Foundation) So, how do we maintain healthy lungs?
We all know that pollution and high air pollution is a problem in the United States. What many people don’t know is that their lungs have become weak because of all the pollutants in their bodies. The lung is made up of three lungs-the bronchial tubes, the trachea, and the windpipe. When the air passes through these lungs, they work in harmony. When something interrupts this natural balance of the lungs, the airway becomes clogged, causing coughing and breathing difficulties.
Other serious ailments that can cause damage to these lungs are asphyxiation, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), emphysema, and lung cancer. When air cannot pass through the lungs, mucous from the lungs gets trapped inside the windpipe and bronchial tubes, blocking them off from oxygen. The result is congestive heart failure, weakness, and difficulty breathing. The lungs lose the ability to absorb oxygen and waste products, and that leads to anoxia. Anoxia is the most dangerous of all conditions, since it can lead to death.
